How to Play Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons
A beat-by-beat watch of the official eight-minute reveal
How to play a game that is not out yet means how to watch. The official Warlock channel upload (embedded in the middle of this page) is the clean eight-minute Gamescom gameplay reveal. Sit with it once for mood, then again with this checklist. You are training eyes, not muscle memory.
Minute-zero identity
You are Kaatri. You made a pact with Tasha. You are looking for someone. You are not rolling dice. You are not building a party. If that already feels wrong, read versus Baldur’s Gate 3 and decide whether to stay. If it feels right, keep watching.
What to mark on the second viewing
- Raw Magic as a thing you hunt, not a pause-menu talent.
- Cantrips happening twice in a fight (blast, bolt, shove, lift).
- Advanced spells happening once (swap, tentacles) with a visible commit.
- A ritual table before weather changes.
- Two weapons — hammer and sword — after magic writes the opening.
- Towns, a warlock mark, Crickshank named in captions.
- Traversal using the same verbs: tentacle platform, grate ghost, long jump.
Pause. Write those seven in a note. That is the whole public loop. Gameplay is the textbook. This page is the lab.
After the video
Open how to use spells if the layers felt muddy. Open how to combo magic for the IGN interview that explains why the rain was not a QTE. Open how to beat enemies for Watcher and ogre. Wishlist on platforms. Do not download a fake 40-hour campaign map.
What “play” will feel like on a pad
Spells on the controller, rituals in a menu, two weapons, third-person. Controls is the short version. Steam already lists pads. Keyboard maps wait.
What this guide will become
In 2027 this page should gain a HUD legend, a first-hour route, and difficulty notes. Until then, rewatch the official file whenever a new trailer drops and update your seven-line note. If a trailer contradicts the note, trust the newer official film and come back here when we revise.

What we still refuse to invent on this page
Pre-release wikis fail when they fill silence with numbers. Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons has not published damage, cooldowns, campaign hours, or a skill tree. This article therefore repeats only public nouns: Kaatri, Tasha, Darkon, Raw Magic, cantrips, advanced spells, rituals, two weapons, 2027, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. If a later trailer names a new tool, it belongs here as a named tool, not as a guessed rank. Wishlist links belong on the platforms article. Button maps belong on the controls article. Boss names belong nowhere until Invoke says them on camera.
Readers arriving from Baldur’s Gate 3 should treat this page as a different job: no camp, no dice, no origin picker. Readers arriving from Dark Alliance should treat it as a different session: no four-player drop-in. Readers arriving from tabletop warlock threads should treat Eldritch Blast as a pad verb, not a slot you ration after a short rest. Witch Bolt wants water and metal. Black Tentacles hold bodies and masonry. Fey Switch is a survival swap. Downpour is a ritual with bowls. Tasha’s Leash is original to this video game.
The official site, the Gamescom eight-minute film, Maggie Robertson’s stage intro, and Dominic Guay’s IGN interview remain the primary sources. Tricia Helfer is Kaatri. The lost person has no public name. Azalin Rex is vanished in previews, not a confirmed health bar. Crickshank harbors a secret in captions. Steam lists twelve languages; this wiki ships English, French, German, and Spanish. The launch window is still a year, not a day. Notes on guides/how-to-play-en-0 stay unique to this article.
Frequently Asked Questions
