Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons Warlock Gamescom 2026 Gameplay Reveal
Eight minutes of Darkon, Tasha, and creative spell tools
On 25 August 2026, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons left the cinematic teaser era. Gamescom Opening Night Live hosted an extended gameplay premiere: Tasha appears in-engine, Kaatri walks a Domain of Dread, and magic is treated as a toolbox rather than a list of damage buttons. The film is the best public document we have until Invoke records a deeper systems deep dive.
Maggie Robertson introduced the segment on stage as Tasha, then the camera stayed with Kaatri. Official copy from Wizards frames the promise clearly: a veteran weapons master makes a dangerous pact to find someone she has lost, then uses forbidden magic, spells, rituals, and otherworldly weapons to open paths, create advantages, uncover secrets, and defeat monsters creatively. That sentence is not flavor text. Almost every shot in the reveal is an example of one of those verbs.
What the eight minutes actually show
The reveal is not a boss-rush trailer. It cuts between exploration and fights so you can see the same spell used two ways. Black Tentacles hold an ogre for a melee finish in one beat, then grip a wall and a levitated stone to make a platform in another. Witch Bolt is not only a stun; it travels through rain, metal, and other conductive surfaces after a Downpour ritual soaks the field. Fey Switch (sometimes described in coverage as a Fey Step cousin) swaps Kaatri with a nearby monster, including a Watcher encounter in a dungeon where repositioning is the survival tool.
Tasha teaches Kaatri to sense Raw Magic — power hidden throughout Darkon that expands and transforms her magical ability. The reveal treats Raw Magic as something you hunt in the world, not a skill-tree currency invented by a UI mockup. Pair this page with Raw Magic and how to find Raw Magic.
Systems you can take to the gameplay hub
Studio comments after the show fill gaps the trailer cannot. Jeff Hattem and Dominic Guay told preview outlets that cantrips stay available, advanced spells slow time when cast and then sit on cooldown, and rituals take longer because they spend components found in the open world. Spells are mapped to the controller at all times; you do not open a selection wheel for the regular kit. Rituals are the exception and use a menu. Two weapons can be equipped; the demo used a warhammer and a sword, and weapons can be found and upgraded. Read combat, rituals, weapons, and controls.
Hattem also told coverage that the Downpour-into-lightning sequence was not a scripted set piece. That claim is important: if weather, conductivity, and enemy placement are systemic, the spell combo page is a planning tool, not a spoiler list of unique scripted moments.
Story crumbs without over-reading
Dialogue in the reveal has Tasha pushing Kaatri to see through the Warlock’s Eye and to find Raw Magic. An imp-like companion asks what the patron wants; Kaatri tells it that is none of its concern. A settlement ahead is named Crickshank in the official Warlock channel captions (auto-captions elsewhere mishear Crackshank). Towns, according to later previews, are places to upgrade weapons, talk to NPCs, and pick up quests. Kaatri is marked as a warlock and is not welcomed everywhere. Keep that on Kaatri and Tasha rather than inventing a full act structure.
Darkon itself is a beautiful, unsettling Domain of Dread with mists, crumbling castles, and forbidden dungeons. Azalin Rex’s absence and a collapsing realm appear in preview write-ups; treat those as lore context on Darkon and Domains of Dread, not as a confirmed quest checklist.
How to watch without duplicate pages
The Opening Night Live world-premiere cut (embedded above) includes Robertson’s stage intro. The official Warlock channel upload is the clean eight-minute gameplay file and is the one we walk, beat by beat, in how to play. IGN later posted a twelve-minute interview with Dominic Guay about combat and puzzles; that video lives on how to combo magic. We do not embed every re-upload from IGN, GameSpot, or PlayStation — they are the same gameplay.
